Happy Earth Day from Timeshare Broker Sales!
If incorporating your eco-friendly lifestyle into your travel plans is important to you, you’ll want to look for a vacation ownership program whose green conscience matches your own.
In honor of Earth Day, we’re discussing the advanced green-initiatives of some of the world’s most popular vacation ownership programs.
When considering eco-friendly programs and policies, two vacation ownership companies stand head and shoulders above the rest: Marriott Vacation Club and Wyndham Worldwide Corporation.
Wyndham Worldwide Corporation
Wyndham Worldwide Corporation ranks among the United States' Top 100 Greenest Companies, and number one among hotels and restaurants, according to Newsweek Magazine's 2011 Green Rankings.
Of all US corporations, Wyndham Worldwide ranked number 73, based on a number of criteria including: all policies, programs, initiatives and disclosures that affect the company's actual environmental footprint. Wyndham Worldwide's Global Reporting Initiative and Carbon Disclosure Project also factored into the company's high ranking.
"By continually evaluating and introducing sustainable practices across the globe, we have been able to make tremendous progress in a short period of time," says Faith Taylor, Wyndham Worldwide vice president of sustainability and innovation. Wyndham Vacation Ownership is a subsidiary of Wyndham Worldwide.
Marriott Vacation Club
Last decade, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency honored Marriott with its Sustained Excellence Award for three consecutive years, and has awarded its ENERGY STAR® label to approximately 275 Marriott hotels.
The more than 50 Marriott Vacation Club resorts worldwide have installed energy efficient lighting, low-flow showerheads and toilets, and participate in a robust resort-wide recycling program. To keep this program functioning optimally, each Marriott Vacation Club resort has its own “green team” which carries out and oversees environmental efforts at the site level.
“Continuing to eliminate more waste from landfills and find innovative ways to ‘green’ our supply chain only strengthens our commitment to being an industry leader in environmental stewardship,” said Dirk Schavemaker, senior vice president of resort operations for Marriott Vacation Club. “We firmly believe that it is our responsibility to demonstrate how responsible resort management can be a positive force for the environment.”
