How to Plan a Flexible and Affordable Family Vacation Itinerary

Going on vacation with the family is fun, but you do need to make sure you have at least some form of itinerary for your vacation when traveling with the kids. When you were on your own, you could just "wing it" and have a great time. With the kids though, you will find that sticking to a schedule helps to make things quite a bit easier. It also helps you to keep your sanity. Here are some of the things you can do to help make things more affordable and to help you stick to your schedule.

Stay in a Timeshare

Owning a timeshare has some great benefits, including lowered costs over time. You will pay for the cost of the property and then the annual fees, but it can eventually help to pay for itself over the years. Even better, these properties usually have more features and amenities than a traditional hotel. This can make staying there feel more like staying at home, which can in turn make it easier to get up and get going in the morning so you can stick to your schedule.

Look for Coupons

If you plan to go to any attractions, or even restaurants in the area, make sure you look for coupons. Coupons that can save on the admission to an amusement park can be very helpful with a large family and even fast food and restaurant coupons can help you save money.

Cook Your Own Meals

Another way to save money and time is to cook your own meals. If you are staying at a timeshare, you will generally have access to a full kitchen in the unit or villa. You can shop locally and make many of your own breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. This saves time since you will not have to wait for a table at a restaurant. It also saves money since eating out can be so expensive, especially when you factor in gratuity.

Remain Open to Changes

No itinerary is perfect, and that might mean you need to make some last minute changes. Having a flexible itinerary with some backup plans is important to the success of your vacation.

Have Some Downtime

You always need to make sure you have some downtime too. While getting out there and exploring the world is great fun, you and the kids need to rest and actually relax on your vacation as well. Sit out by the pool or on the beach and just read a good book while the kids play.
