How To benefit From Frequently Visited Timeshare Properties

Integrating Into Your Vacation Life

When you own a timeshare, you have the option of staying either in the same place or a different place each year. By using timeshare exchange companies, you can exchange your weeks or points for just about any location in the world. However, there are many people who enjoy going to the same location every year and timeshares are a great way of accommodating this. These people enjoy the benefits a timeshare provides them to them it’s about creating a second life in another country, with a different lifestyle, different friends and a different mentality. The beauty of it is that it can be achieved without having to give up an existing lifestyle.

Commitment to Longevity

The true beauty of a timeshare property can come out of regular annual (or perhaps more frequent) visits over a long period of time that allows a complete integration into the surroundingVacation in other countries environment and community. By getting to know locals, making friends and creating a social life in the second home, individuals can really start to feel like the timeshare is a home away from home. This of course won’t happen overnight and a commitment will be needed to nurturing and maintaining relationships and connections. Little things like learning the local language or finding out about local history don’t take up too much time on a daily or weekly basis but can lead to big steps forward in integrating with a community. After all, being accepted as more than just a tourist is a unique part of owning a timeshare that the vast majority of holiday formats simply can’t facilitate. It is one of the reasons why timeshare owners go to so much trouble to ensure their purchase is made from a credible source, so that it would provide them with years of enjoyment.

Learn from Mistakes

Getting to know a new environment is never easy. No matter how many times a person has resettled or how many different environments have been experienced, there are some lessons that every new location holds. There is perhaps none more common than the touristy mistakes that make an individual stand out as a newcomer like a sore thumb. It doesn’t matter if this is a mispronunciation with comic implications or a brave local delicacy tasting that back fires. Every time it happens it is embarrassing, and most everyone feels about a foot tall in the aftermath.

But it is no cliché to say that these little moments truly do make the best stories in time to come and when people in the local community can laugh along with such instances it can be as much a sign of acceptance as anything else. Take any mistakes as part of the learning curve, find out from other people about their mistakes and learn from the whole mix. Don’t make the mistake of allowing a fear of rejection to prevent a community acceptance that will come over time. The only thing that can really prevent people from settling in to a timeshare location and accepting it as a second home is the decision to stop trying.

Share and Share Alike

You may make the mistake of thinking that those entering a new group or new community are the only ones who should be open to learning. Any community or group of friends that wants to accept new people will want to do so because they want to learn about and get to know these new people as much as they want you to learn and become a part of their community. There is nothing more inviting in a learning and integration experience than for everyone to be taking part in the learning and sharing experiences equally. It is a common, almost clichéd, aspect of human nature that the more others share with us, the more we are willing and open to sharing ourselves.

Stick Around

When timeshare holders make the decision and then take the steps to integrate into their holiday home community, a change in mindset happens. In choosing to be a part of the new community, the timeshare stops being simply an investment for profit and more a part of life that’s committed to for the long term.

Timeshare Exchanges

Fancy Vacationing Somewhere Different This Year?

Timeshares may get a lot of bad press for being associated with scams, but in reality the majority of timeshares are genuine (read our blog article ‘Ten Signs it’s a Timeshare Scam’ for advice on how to spot a scam), and make for a fantastic addition to your property portfolio. Timeshares in getaway beach destinations such as Florida, Colorado, and Mexico provide buyers with a relaxing holiday each year without having to worry about the cost of accommodation. A common reason people are put off time shares is the idea of having to vacation in the same place each year, but this needn’t be the case. As a timeshare owner you have the option of arranging a timeshare exchange. Not sure what a timeshare exchange is? Remember the film The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet? Well, in the film Diaz swaps her luxury LA home with Winslet’s cottage in the English countryside for two weeks over Christmas. This is basically what a timeshare exchange is, except that you will only be exchanging holiday homes; not your actual home.

Finding a Timeshare Exchange

The best thing about a timeshare exchange is that you can arrange one with anyone, anywhere across the world; you are not required to stick to a single country. So if you fancy two weeks in the French Alps, or three on the Spanish coast, there is nothing to stop you from having the holiday of your dreams. The only problem is actually finding a timeshare in your desired destination, and arranging for the swap; this is where it can get slightly tricky. If your timeshare resort is owned by a company which also owns several other resorts across the world, it is possible they may provide an open exchange system. Speak to the resort company to find out where their other resorts are, and whether it is possible for you to participate in a timeshare swap. Another option is to go through an exchange company. These companies facilitate the exchanging of time shares, matching peoples’ requirement to what other timeshare owners have to offer. All you have to do is sign up for the exchange company and indicate potential places and dates for your holiday.

Permanent Swaps

What can you do if you’ve gotten all you can get from your current timeshare but don’t feel like selling just yet? Go in for a permanent timeshare swap. Permanent timeshare swaps can be used if you want to retain a timeshare holiday home but in an alternative destination, and they work in a similar way to a regular timeshare exchange. There are various online platforms available where you can advertise your own timeshare unit, and browse other units you may be interested in. Though it would be possible to arrange an international permanent timeshare swap, it would be easier, and likely more beneficial in the long run, to swap within the country.

Alternative Ways to Use Your Timeshare

Many people are driven to increasing their mortgages to pay debt off; a process called ‘debt consolidation’. The thinking is that as interest rates on mortgages are low, it is the best way to pay off debts quickly without accumulating loads of interest. This thinking is not entirely correct, as there are lots of potential pitfalls to consider. In short, consolidating your debts in this way is only recommended as a last resort. If you are a timeshare owner, you may wish to consider using your timeshare as a way to boost your financial situation. Renting out your timeshare when you are not using it is a potential route to go down. In this scenario you have the flexibility to dictate your cost and terms of rental, but you will need to check you are abiding by the terms of your contract with the resort company. Alternatively you could sell your timeshare to release the funds as a short-term solution to financial difficulty. Take a look at the ‘Sell Your Timeshare’ section on our website for more information on how to successfully sell.

Find Your Dream Vacation with Frommer’s and TBS

2012-08-24_172731As summer winds to an end, we’re already dreading the cold-weather blues. We know the best way to get through the winter doldrums is to plan a fun, sunny vacation to look forward to; but where to go? With so many choices out there, it’s sometimes hard to narrow our options. That’s why we’re having so much fun with Frommer’s “Dream Trip Recommender.”

What started as simple curiosity (where can we escape to this year?) has now turned into a bit of an obsession. Looking for a romantic vacation, beachside with plenty of outdoor adventure? How about a family trip to that ranks high on both luxury and fun?

Simply plug your preferences in, rate other factors (cuisine, nightlife, culture and luxury) as most or least important to you; and wait for your customized vacation destination recommendation.

Here are just a few of the fun combinations we came up with (our selections in bold):

  • Family vacation on the Beach with lots of Outdoor Activities: Mexico’s Los Cabos; Hawaii’s Big Island; and Cape Cod’s Nantucket.
  • Solo Adventure trip, Off the Beaten Path, Great Food & Drink: Rio de Janiero, Brazil; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Cannes, France.
  • Very Luxurious, Relaxation-Oriented, Spa Resort with Great Cuisine: St. Tropez, France; Puerto Rico; St. Marten, Caribbean; and Maui, Hawaii.
  • Romantic vacation with Snow Sports, lots of Luxury and Excellent Dining: Vail, Colorado; Aspen, Colorado; Banff National Park, Canada; and Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Since we’re travel-nerds, we could have played this game for hours (full disclosure… we did); but more relevantly, we were happy to find that many of the recommendations are hotspots for vacation property ownership.

Whether you’re looking for a one-time, weeklong timeshare rental in Maui (suggested for that romantic, adventure, beachside search), or you’re looking to buy a family-friendly timeshare in Orlando (also recommended), you should have no problem securing spacious accommodations.

We can’t urge you enough – give it a try! Once you find your dream destination, contact us. We’ll check our inventory for rentals or timeshare resales in your custom locale, and we’ll help you through the whole rental or purchase process.
